Earlier this week, I dropped Episode 72 of my podcast Be True, “Worthy Disciples and the Weary” (below), which is a pretty good summation of my wishes for this holiday season. By which I mean, my wishes for all of us.
Here’s the poem in full, which will be published in my forthcoming chapbook Apocrypha. You’ll hear more about Apocrypha very soon.
In the meantime, I hope that you, your friends, and your family have a very happy, healthy, and restful holiday.
Levi Do not misjudge a grand performance. He had to show himself, conjure signs of grace. Since scribes respond to power, he gave them a lame man walking. Then, leaving that place behind, called to me as if my righteousness would be a greater miracle. And it was, since the greedy respond to luxury, and he entered in the company of six salts rank with sea. Suddenly, the surpassing wealth was humanity. I gathered them round my table, my rich friends with his fishermen, and he smiled at my hospitality. “A worthy disciple,” he said to me, “is one who opens his door to the weary.”
