John reads "In Memoriam, July 19, 1914," a poem by Anna Akhmatova. He also discusses the absurdities of war, witnesses to history, people as commodities, and writers who stay and fight.
To feel so annhilated by circumstances that are beyond your control , this is raw and moving .To think of being so hurt that songs and passions are burdens , something to shake off and shy away from in the attempt to achieve the mental clarity and stoicism required to face, fight and survive the madness .
